Figure of Samantabhadra

What survives is the section from the belly button downward. The figure is depicted in a seated on a lotus throne adopting rajalalitasana and draped in a diaphanous robe. A very rare image in Tang sculpture.

Samantabhadra "Universal Worthy" is one of the three figures in Mahayana Buddhism that form the holy trinity. Together with Gautama Buddha and the bodhisattva Manjusri, they form the Shakyamuni trinity in Buddhism.
