Two fragmentary figures
Colima, Tomb shaft culture
West Mexico
200 BC - 200AD
The first is the lower half of a bare-bodied man, his legs suggesting a provocative stance, while the second is the rotund torso of a woman, proudly displaying her rounded belly beneath a simple loincloth. Hints of red pigment still cling to her clay skin.
One can only imagine the playful banter and flirtation between these two tiny sculptures.
